Deciding To Be Stay At Home Mom

Deciding To Be Stay At Home Mom – I found being a stay at home mom to be a shame. Often, but not always, people think that being a stay at home mom is easy or something you only have to do for a while.

When I first transitioned from being a full-time teacher to a stay-at-home mom, that means people ask me all the time, “how do you enjoy not working?” or “do you still live at home with your child?” Let me tell you, these types of comments make me want to call!

Peacefully Embracing Motherhood & Career — Catholic Women In Business

I didn’t want to write this because I don’t want to seem ungrateful for being home or for my wonderful son. I am very happy that I live at home with my son. There is nothing else in the world I would rather be doing. This being said…

After much thought and consideration I decided I should talk about the pros and cons of being a stay at home mom. Because it’s normal to have ups and downs but I made sure to say out loud that I’m a bad mom and it’s not true.

I hope this helps other women change. That she reads this and knows that she is not alone and that it is normal to have ups and downs in every motherhood journey.

Because whether you choose to be a stay-at-home mom, stay-at-home mom, stay-at-home mom, helicopter mom… whatever that label may be, I believe all moms are heroes! There is no best way to be a mother and I thank God for that.

This is just my story and my experience of being a stay at home mom. It has been an amazing journey that I am so grateful to have been a part of. It was the best decision for me but, there were good and bad!

I want to start with the bad because I like to leave things to their own devices, so I’ll save the good for last.

Pros and Cons of Staying at Home Bad Housewives: Feeling Disorganized:

This feeling was especially strong when my son was a baby and I had just made the decision to be a stay-at-home mom. I always knew it was what I wanted to do, but I didn’t realize how lost I was.

Luxury Or Necessity? My Decision To Become A Stay At Home Mom

I left the classroom for eight years. Where I know what I’m doing every day. I knew how to succeed and do a good job in every way.

Then suddenly I was a mother. I was responsible for someone else and I didn’t know what I was doing!!

It was me and Foster every day. No two days were the same and that meant I couldn’t predict what was going to happen.

Remember at the beginning of this post when I talked about the comments that made me want to spit?! That’s where they come from.

Motherhood: Life As A Stay At Home Mom

When everyone knew I had quit teaching to be a stay at home mom, I felt like all eyes were on me. Then there were the judge’s comments:

All of these comments may come with conflicting views. If you’re a people pleaser like me, then you know that words and looks are like knives.

This is huge for me. I went from visiting the children’s class with my friends every day to just being with my son for eight to ten hours a day.

I tried to join moms’ groups when Foster was a baby, but no playdates were appropriate for such a young child. Also, I was very nervous to meet new moms. A woman I was sure had more than me.

Stay At Home Parents Need Support Too

Then there was the fact that Foster couldn’t stay in the car, so going anywhere was painful. So, most days I am alone at home and I am alone after a while. Even for an introvert like me.

Even though I read all the parenting books, I took all the classes and talked to women who had gone before me. I still felt like I didn’t know what I was doing!

When he was a baby we weren’t on a schedule. I didn’t know when he slept. When she cried, I didn’t know how to calm her down. I didn’t know why she screamed for an hour, the same time every day. I didn’t know if I was going to sleep again or wear a real bra.

I didn’t believe “my mother” nor did I even know it was a thing. To say I had no faith would be an understatement.

Mom Returns To Work After 16 Years As Stay At Home Mom

If you’ve read The 5 Love Languages, you know that there are five ways you feel loved. One of my options is to find a quote.

As a teacher I am always validated. My kids would tell me sweet things or make me expensive cards. I get “atta girls” from the principal or other teachers. Parents usually (you can’t please everyone) love me. So, I got a lot of confirmations.

Then I became a stay at home mom. Like I said, I feel lost, judged, lonely and confused! There was no one there (except my son) to talk to for confirmation.

Well, now you are about to be disappointed. Let me stop you and say there is a light and you must walk there! Because here comes the good that makes everything better and worthwhile!

Should All Mothers Be Stay At Home Moms?

I am the #1 influence on my son (especially now). Since I live with him every day, I teach him how to talk, deal with his emotions, be kind, keep blocks, not hit and eat his leaves (if I’m lucky).

Every day is not beautiful but every day is important. I am convinced that the greatest influence occurs in a few minutes of repeated practice.

I am very grateful that I have an influence on him in front of social networks, groups of friends and sports groups. I know this time is short, so I try to focus on the time we have now, but of course some days are harder than others.

I pray every day that I have the influence they need. That I can show him love, compassion and discipline in a way that prepares him to go out into the world because unfortunately I can’t keep him, although, Amazon has to sell it.

Stay At Home Dads: Statistics, Challenges, And Benefits

The partnership we have had over the last two years is very strong. My relationship with my son is like no other. Through the daily challenges we learned to trust and respect each other.

Bonding with your baby takes time and is something you don’t always have right after birth. Even holding your baby for 9 months is not the same as holding them in your arms.

When my son arrived, it took life experiences to form a relationship with him. So that I may know him and he may know me.

Fortunately, with time and trial and error you grow together in many ways. Include trust in your relationship It’s not always pretty but relationships are.

Being a stay at home mom has allowed me to make new friends with other moms who find me, even though it took me a while to make friends.

When you’ve just started being a stay-at-home mom and you don’t know where to take your baby (because you’re new to this). You never know where you will meet people, but give yourself time.

You can go to MeetUp groups or you can just start going to your local library and follow other women (don’t worry).

It took me a while, but the relationships I’m making now are so special because we’re on the imperfect journey of motherhood together.

This is something that took time and you can’t force it. After two years I can confidently say that being a stay at home mom has made me a more confident person.
