Repairs & Tuning

As the season draws to a close, here’s what you can do to keep your skis comfortable and fast for next season.

Check out our locations – Is it time to sharpen your stones? Spring and summer are the best times to go skiing. Look at your skis. Are you hurt? Is the texture starting to look uneven and discolored? Is there a small discoloration on the bottom? Stone polishing not only provides a precise and efficient texture, but also exposes fresh base material and improves wax absorption, especially if the base has been fired or sealed. You are always welcome to bring your skis into our shop for evaluation.

Clean your skis: When cleaning your classic skis, use wax remover to clean the kick zone. Also, be sure to clean any kick wax from the sides and front of your skis. Use a gliding zone cleaner to remove dirt and fluoride from the gliding zone. When cleaning your skate skis, use glide zone cleaner from tip to tail. The difference between wax remover and glide zone cleaner is that remover is designed to dissolve all wax (including glide wax), whereas glide zone cleaner removes the accumulated (and beneficial) paraffin in the glide zone. It removes dirt and fluoride without removing wax. Use a fine wire brush after cleaning.

Apply archival wax: The best archival waxes are on the softer end of the spectrum. Think Holmenkol Beta Mix, Alpha Mix, Swix CH8X or CH10X. Generously applying wax to the slip zone will ensure protection from exposure and scratches.

Relax your skis: If you use straps or other devices to secure your skis, be sure to loosen them before storing them to avoid putting pressure or tension on your skis’ camber. As with storing them in a warm place, this can cause problems for your skis.
