The good news: Las Vegas has a lot of hotel rooms, which are low in price – and are often subsidized by casinos, which pushes it even lower. The bad news: Every hotel has a daily, non-negotiable resort fee (often including things like wifi and access to the gym), which is sometimes very close to the price of your room.

That said, weekends are when the city is at its busiest, meaning cheaper prices can be found between Sunday and Thursday. However, large conferences can raise prices mid-week, so always check the dates.

Vegas wouldn’t be Vegas without the dancing fountains at Bellagio. Inside the hotel, things are the same – there is a large storage area in the area of marble and gold, which has wonderful seasonal exhibitions. Indoor entertainment is provided by Cirque du Soleil (show here,
, is considered one of the best), and one of the hotel’s restaurants is called Picasso, because it has real Picassos on the wall. Outside the ancient pool next to the statue, there is an art gallery with old masters.
The rooms match the rest of the decor, with a silver blue palette, neat bathrooms and beautiful views. Strip View rooms have views of the fountains, but it’s worth upgrading to a Fountain View room, where you’re standing right in front of the show.

One of the hotels in Vegas that does very well is the Nobu Hotel at Caesars Palace, where the rooms are superior to those at Caesars Palace. Nobu Matsuhisa worked with David Rockwell on my Japanese-inspired design – think calligraphy-like patterns on the back of the bed, and towels hanging from the wooden steps on the bathroom walls in black columns.
The hotel’s private entrance – which surrounds the back of the Caesars casino – lends a special air, just like the entrance hall. Everything in the rooms, from the artwork to the contents of the minibar, was chosen by Nobu himself, and 24-hour room service is provided by the world’s largest Nobu restaurant.
What was once Monte Carlo has been revived as this huge development, including the Eataly food market and the T Mobile Arena at the back.

The guest rooms are Moroccan-inspired again in the Blanca Tower, with North African patterns on the headboards. On the other hand, the Marra Tower rooms are light and airy, with amazing features – including black star pillows with leather chairs and a bed, designed by Lenny Kravitz. The Tower of Alexandria, however, is a must-see, with its Versailles feel and delightful rooms – chandeliers, white chaise longues and tapestries inspired by Marie Antoinette.
Although it’s on the North Strip (you’ll need to take a taxi to the action), the most crowded rooms are in Vegas.

What was divey Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall was reborn in 2014 as The Cromwell Las Vegas, a small hotel with “only” 188 rooms. It claims to be UK-themed, although the Italian damask walls and chandeliers are not as British as the Chesterfield sofas and coffee tables designed as backboards. Book a Strip-view room at Paris Las Vegas and you’ll see from the Eiffel Tower to the Bellagio fountain. This is one of the funniest casinos on the Strip, and it’s all for the better – the bathrooms come out to you in French, and the faux-cobbled public areas are plentiful.
Rooms have been updated in 2019 with burgundy patterned curtains and matching rugs. Get a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower, for the full experience.
