Best Books For 12 18 Month Old

This is a post I’ve wanted to post for a long time (obviously – because Kade is two now *palms*) but I never got around to it. Recently I have had many people reach out to me saying something like “I want to do activities with __-months, but I don’t know where to start!” Or just asking for advice/directions/ideas on activities and crafts for children under one year old. I label this post more for 12-18 months, but some of the activities can be completed as soon as the child can sit without support and grasp objects.

I also labeled this post “daily activity rotation”. I do this because that’s how I prepare all the activities of the week that I do and I take photos. Kyle is traveling for work this week and I want to be prepared with fun, activities and new material to explore so I don’t lose my sanity over the weekend and keep Kade entertained and not bored. crying playing with the same old toys. Yes, it took some prep work the weekend before, but it honestly made our last week a lot smoother and more fun for both of us.

When Kade was this age, I tried to change the toys in the main playground once a week. This helps keep things fresh and exciting. Even if the games have been seen before, if they don’t see them often, they are more interesting and keep their attention and focus for a longer time. For this post, I will go through each day of the week and briefly explain each developmentally appropriate activity or game that I set for people to explore today. I will also link to the material used where and when possible for your reference. I hope some of these ideas are helpful!

I propped Kade up on the couch pushing Bumbo on the kitchen table and set some play doh for him. I put a tub with some magnetic letters and just let them find it. I showed him how to cut out different letters in play doh when we talked about the colors of letters and looking for letters to write his name. Play doh 100% of the activities that I watched a lot (even at the age of two, but especially when I was young) because every time I tried to sneak a taste. It is not toxic which still gives me peace of mind, but I still like not to add it to my diet. 😉 This activity is great for sensory exploration, works on fine motor skills, and also introduces capital letters and colors.

Gifted Children And Language Development

I used one of my beloved “first words” books that have lots of real life pictures and just covered a few pictures on each page with post-it notes. I had to use a few different sizes depending on the size of the image, but this is super fun and super easy to make! Kade likes to turn pages, and tear apart posts to find what’s hiding underneath. This activity works for fine motor skills (turning pages and pulling posts), and helps build vocabulary.

We have three of these sweet fingerpuppet nursery rhyme books that are very interactive for this age. There are TONS of them on Amazon! We read/sing together and Kade likes to touch the doll when I put it down and read to him. These books help build vocabulary, promote reading/literacy, and are great for bonding with young children. 😉

A great developmental toy for this age. We are a technical profit play because there is a hole in the bottom. They are useful in various sensory boxes and we also like to use them in the water table. This cup set was one of Kade’s favorite toys to play with even before he was a year old. As they grow, they increase because they can build towers with them and nest from the biggest to the smallest. These toys help promote problem solving, and work on children’s developmental skills, such as stacking, building, and nesting.

We always take this activity with us in the car on road trips again! We switched from straws and also use pipe cleaners (Target carries the Kid Made Modern brand of fun big/grease pipe cleaners). I used an empty Flavored ICE Sparkling drink bottle because I’m a bit taller and thinner, but a regular empty water bottle works just as well!

Books For Year 3 Children Aged 7 8

I used some colored paper and cut out small circles and stuck them in the bottom of 6 muffin cups. I put color coordinated plastic balls that I got from the ball game in a small bin with a plastic ice scooper. This activity is great for clear color sorting pieces, but also for building hand-eye coordination with scooping/dropping into the tin.

Oh, I wish I could link this article to you! This is a great piece that I scored from the Target dollar section last season and we absolutely love it. Good for sorting and categorizing all the “things to do”. I have not seen this one in particular, but I know the dollar section at Target is often super cute imaginative play felt activities or felt sort of activities Mat so always, always check there when you go (like if someone DOESN). ‘T). explore that part every time anyway? Is that possible?)

Kade is still playing with those blocks at two years old! Another great developmental game that grows with your child. When I was young, it was good to gnaw on;), smash together, and throw around. For a long time, he enjoyed watching mom and dad build towers and beat them. As he got older, he could now stack and knock them all by himself.

The (very) Best Books I Read In 2023

This takes some prep time beforehand, but it’s a fun, different/unique activity for us! I took a set of alphabet flashcards and stuffed them all in a separate envelope. I put all the envelopes in a small bin and let Kade “open all the mail” while we looked at it and talked about each photo on the card. Of course, he didn’t open all the envelopes in one sitting, because his attention span is so short at this age, but he returned during the day. This is a great motor activity and also helps build vocabulary.

I try to put in some fun, new, different types of books for each activity rotation to change it up from the usual basket of book boards. Giving little ones different sizes, shapes and textures to explore in book form is a great way to keep them interested and excited about books/literacy. Kade still loves these mini mother goose books and especially loves the little “case” that comes with them. He knows a lot of moms who sing rhymes now because I read them too. This canvas book we have was actually a super sweet and thoughtful gift for Kade from a close friend of mine when she was born. She is very talented and she sews herself. It is very special to us and was one of Kade’s favorite books as a child!
