“This new online option offers many benefits to the public and our court system,” said Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr. “The biggest benefit is that people who have to pay court costs can now do so online. It also eases the financial burden on people with prepaid cases by allowing them to pay on time if they need to.”

A prepayment case is one that does not require a court appearance. Individuals who use a prepaid case and choose to pay will receive text/email notifications as part of the ePay expansion.

Chief Justice Minton said paying court fees online saves time and reduces in-person visits to court centers. This is an important safety measure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SINGAPORE – State court users can now pay bail, court fees and fines through new self-service payment kiosks.

The new Automated Collection System (ACS), launched on July 1 this year, is one of the first systems to accept multiple payment methods, including cash, checks, internet and credit cards.

Before the new ACS was launched, all transactions were handled by cashiers. Each year, state courts collect about $56 million in court fees and fines and an additional $14 million in bail, the court said in a press statement Friday (September 2).

The new kiosks now allow court users to choose to pay their fees on their own by scanning a QR code on a payment tip and entering the required information on a friendly touchscreen display when prompted.

Because ACS is integrated with the state court’s existing financial management system, users can expect to be paid immediately after the conclusion of their case.

Two machines are currently in use, with a third machine scheduled to be added soon. Over the past two months, the kiosk has processed an average of 65 payments per day and the system has received positive feedback from customers.

Currently, ACS can only be found in state courthouses, but other public agencies have expressed interest in adopting kiosk technology to automate their cashiers.
