Models – When purchasing models, please note that some require painting and gluing, while others do not. We have had great success with models from the Maisto assembly line. These models are pre-painted and attached with snaps. My son was happy with it because he was interested in displaying the car, not necessarily in the process of building it. Some kids will enjoy painting the model, but he doesn’t want to mess with it!
Hot Wheels/ Matchbox – Some kids enjoy collecting Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. At this point we’re talking about car makes and models, not driving them on the floor. 🙂

Keva Planks – The box says it’s for ages 7+, but this building set is better for ages 9+. My preschoolers love building with these boards, but older kids can really create some amazing structures! Building requires patience and a steady hand.

Aidan’s first pocket knife was a Victorinox Swiss Army Classic. When we are out she loves to pull out the scissors to cut the tags off the items and open the package with a knife for me! Basically, any excuse to use it is great. Older kids can upgrade to the larger Leatherman Multi-Tool. You can buy a nylon sheath for the Leatherman, which will come in handy.
