Stuff For 3 Year Olds To Do – Em’s third birthday is coming up. I usually dread getting him gifts because by the time he turns three he can’t do many of the things that other three-year-olds can do, so it’s hard to find a balance of things that challenge him. , but many are things, and things that are “interesting”, but also not completely lame and shame us for giving away in the first place.
One of my favorite “special needs” bloggers is Ellen at Love That Max. Her son has cerebral palsy and she shares many stories that I can totally relate to. Every year around Christmas, she puts together a beautiful and comprehensive gift guide full of things that other children with special needs (including herself) can enjoy. With Em’s birthday coming up, I went through the last seven years of her gift guide last night, showing off her favorite things and everyone buying gifts for her non-exercising preschooler. I thought I’d share it with someone.
Stuff For 3 Year Olds To Do
1. Roody Inflatable Hopping Horse: We got Em a similar gift for his birthday last year, but it was an indoor bike ride. He loved to ride his bike, play with toys or watch a show, but he grew too fast and his knees hit the handlebars, and now it’s too bad to fit. I think he will like it instead!

2. Magformers: These toys are very popular now. I’m still looking for a good brand that has a good price ratio for magnets, but I think these are great for Em to work with his hands, and I think he and Jay will love building with them.
3. Mini Trampoline: I know some of you are thinking “why would you want to get a kid who can’t walk on an ‘h’ trampoline?!” But Em has used it a few times in PT and because of his arm strength he does it very well. He is strong enough to hold himself up and is good for his legs too!
4. Rain Splash: I think this will be a soothing and fun sensory toy for him to play with.
5. Play Tunnels: Jay is the kind of kid who thinks crawling through one of these tunnels at almost five is a rare form of terrifying torture, but Em is really excited and I think he’s looking for that kind of torture. absolutely love!

6. Hungry Behemoths: It’s still hard to add Em to most board games, but I like that this game doesn’t involve moving pieces around the board. All he has to do is throw a hold every now and then and I see this as the only game he and Jay can play together that doesn’t end in a fight.
7. Cool coupe: Of all the things on this list, this is the biggest birthday present we’ll get this year (and probably the only one), but it was in these cars. often and he loves them very much. I think it would be a great way for him to ‘ride’ something on the road while Jay is on his bike, meaning we can all be out and about as a family.
8. Educube: These little cube chairs are really cool, even if they are expensive. They have two levels of support depending on your seat and provide enough lateral support so that the child feels safe and can easily join other activities with children. Most of these items don’t require any preparation and use items you may have around the house. For most of these cases, the cleanup is nothing or very little.
Obviously, you can’t do everything on this list. So, go through the list, choose 10-15 things that your preschooler wants to do.
