Seven-year-old children are little sponges who absorb everything they can about the world around them. It’s an exciting time when curious minds are buzzing with ideas and questions (so

Questions). With their ever-increasing level of independence, they love to learn and try new things, but they’re still too short to enjoy fun and silly play. So, there are many options when it comes to choosing the perfect gift.

Christmas Gifts For 7 Year Old Boys

By age seven, they have the concentration skills and newfound tolerance to enjoy more challenging games – whether it’s puzzles or complex Lego sets that test their fine motor skills. They also love to be crafty and creative, so gifts that give them all the tools they need to spend an afternoon making something (alone or with friends) are always a hit.

Gross motor skills, balance and coordination come very quickly, so gifts that encourage them to be active outside are also a great choice – and parents will appreciate what the kids are doing too. Naturally, such gifts can be expensive, but if you’re looking for a great Christmas present for a seven-year-old, you can’t go wrong with something like a 2-wheel scooter or pedal bike.

Books are, of course, an excellent gift at this age, which is safe because most seven-year-olds can read (to varying degrees). The world opens up when children can read, so develop this skill and all the wonders it offers with a book that really captures their imagination. After all, this is a time when the appeal of screens is high, so offering attractive alternatives can also help balance out the inevitable tablet/TV/game console time.

Seven-year-olds want more than anything to have fun – they’re still little kids – so choose toys, games and gifts that will keep them laughing and entertained for more than one afternoon. Whether they’re budding artists, Lego fans or outdoor adventurers, our roundup has the perfect gift for them anywhere.

Tried & True Fun Gift Ideas For 7 Year Old Boys

Our two seven-year-old testers spent a month trying out a huge range of gifts and gave us their honest opinion on each one. Gifts are presented at home and on holidays, while playing solo and with friends, to find out which gifts really deserve a place on our list.

We saw how attractive the gifts were – especially how regularly our testers returned to them, what value for money and longevity they offered. After all, you don’t want to buy them at seven o’clock or get bored quickly. Our roundup also covers a range of budgets, but offers plenty of affordable gifts to surprise seven-year-olds, along with more expensive options for extra-special Christmas or birthday gifts.

Finding a gift for a seven-year-old whose parents love children is difficult, but Yoto’s gamer managed it. This interactive audio player puts kids in control of a selection of hundreds of stories – favorites from Tom Fletcher and Roald Dahl – songs and more on Yoto cards that you insert into the top of the box and play. There are also age-appropriate bedtime meditations, foreign language facts and first words, as well as a daily podcast and radio station Yoto, which plays kid-friendly pop songs throughout the day.

Although sturdy and child-friendly, it feels like a “grown-up” addition to any seven-year-old’s bedroom. It’s so easy to navigate that our young tester got the hang of it almost immediately after we helped him set it up and was happy to use it – which, thankfully, was pretty easy. Download the Yoto app, insert the “Welcome Card” into the Yoto player and follow the instructions to connect to WiFi. There is also a parental app that gives us control over everything from day and night volume to display brightness.

It’s not cheap, but it packs a lot of features into its compact size. The illuminated pixel screen shows the time, along with the sun during the day and the moon at night, can be used as a night light, room thermometer and can be used with headphones (wired or Bluetooth). So we feel it is worth every penny and will make a great companion for any teenage child.

Sometimes the simplest ideas capture a child’s imagination the most, which is certainly the case with making a pizza for a bird kit. Inside the drawstring bag, you’ll find two reusable wooden “pizza coasters”, three mini bags filled with a variety of seasonal bird foods (note that these may contain nuts and seeds mixed with peanuts), and a cute cotton bag. Nine beautifully illustrated cards to help you identify some of the most common native British birds in your garden.

Our testers had a great time digging up the soil in the garden, adding a little water and spreading the mud mixture over the foundation before spreading the seeds. You can also add some oats, whole grains or soaked dried fruit from home. Once the set-up was complete, our testers waited patiently inside and enjoyed watching the bird feeder table with binoculars to spot the feathered visitors – and the excitement level was gone when the birds started gobbling up the seeds!

A Christmas Gift Guide By A Seven Year Old Boy

We love that everything here is recyclable – the wooden stands can be used over and over and when they run out, each bag can be cheaply filled with suitable garden bird food or oatmeal. It’s a great way to encourage children to get outside, connect with and appreciate nature at any time of the year. Plus it costs less than £20. What’s not to love?

There are scooters and then there are micro scooters. Every little detail has been thought out in Sprite to make it easy for children to ride on two wheels – and to make life as easy as possible for parents. At first there was no assembly required, we literally had to unpack the scooter and snap the handlebars on. If you need to adjust the height of the handlebar stem – almost as if you were buying for a seven-year-old, this scooter is suitable for ages 5 to 12 (152 cm) – you can do it quickly and easily. Using the Allen wrench provided. That’s it, you’re ready to go.

Seven is a great age for two-wheeled scooters, and they don’t come much cooler than the Sprite Neochrome. Rainbow Neochrome finish, light-up LED wheels – without draining the battery, hooray! – and thanks to its elegant design, it became a favorite among our testers. It’s also very light at 2.85kg, which means it’s easier for a seven-year-old to handle on two wheels – and less of a pain in the back if you have to carry it home.

It quickly folds down into a neat compact size that’s perfect for days out or on holiday. And we also liked the kickstand (a nice touch to protect the neo-chrome finish) and the crisp grips, which were soft to the touch and a good size for our tester. Best of all, we know from experience that micro scooters are built to last, so if you’re looking to buy a Christmas present that’s easy to pass on to family members, you can’t go wrong with the Sprite.

Who knew painting by numbers could be so cool? The OMY Paint Box Kit includes six slide-out cardboard shapes, a set of six colors, a brush and string to hang the finished artwork. You probably know the drill; Paint the numbered parts with paint with the corresponding numbers and voila, you have your own piece of art to display at home.

Our testers loved the dinosaur-themed set – although there were plenty of other designs to choose from – and the neon color in particular stood out. There are large areas and intricate, interesting places to paint to give your seven-year-old’s fine motor skills a good workout. Fortunately, there’s nothing complicated enough to frustrate them, but there’s plenty to keep them busy besides their gift of arts and crafts. The bold graphic designs feel modern and fun – making them a great, creative gift that’s a little different from other craft offerings.
